From U.S. WATER NEWS OCT '02 A study released by environmentalists found that paved areas have worsened the drought by blocking billions of gallons of rainwater from seeping though the soil to replenish groundwater. The report said that Atlanta, which leads the nation in sprawl, loses enough water to supply the average household needs of 3.6 million people a year.
